Design processes and their application in the real world
This session will bridge the gap between design theory and real-world product experiences, helping participants understand how design decisions shape user behavior in everyday digital interactions. We’ll begin by exploring how design processes are applied in real projects, uncovering the practical challenges, trade-offs, and decision-making frameworks that designers and product teams navigate beyond textbooks and case studies. The discussion will then shift toward the psychology behind our digital habits. By analyzing some of our most-used apps and platforms, participants will reflect on their own usage patterns and question whether these experiences are intentionally designed to encourage excessive engagement. Together, we’ll uncover the behavioral triggers, persuasive techniques, and emotional cues that influence user actions and keep people coming back. Building on this foundation, the session will take a deep dive into the world of Dark Patterns — manipulative design practices that push users toward decisions they may not consciously intend to make. From endless scrolling and hidden opt-outs to misleading consent flows and urgency tactics, we’ll break down how these patterns work, why businesses adopt them, and the ethical tensions they create within product teams.
